Keep Dancing Inc have continued to build on the immense waves they made with their return to the scene in 2020. ‘Start Up Nation’ is rooted in electronic textures that find parallels in everything from Kraftwerk to The Hoosiers, while the band themselves acknowledge the importance of 80s disco: “Artists like Chic or Surface were important inspirations as we wanted to keep it fun and have a dance touch.” They also explain that “it’s just a song about someone in a club witnessing surrealistic situations à la Terry Gilliam’s Brazil but who remains unabashed and keeps dancing.” The accompanying music video clearly resonates with that surrealist vision, as it is pushed forward by vivid colours, and confusing, contrasting imagery that matches the music to a tee. Their sound is simultaneously futuristic and retro, and we can’t get enough of it. -Dan Peeke
